Description

Our Bug Hunting Sessions need improvement. The participation rate has been low the last times. The scope of this ticket is to:

  • identifiy the reasons
  • make proposals on how to improve the situation
  • test these proposals
  • and eventually deploy them

One proposal is to have BHS just one day during the week, instead of the weekend.

Feedback on the QA list has been quiet low. Cor's feedback about the lack of interest is that BHS are not new any more so less attractive.
So the tentative proposal I'll post on the QA list:
- one day session on Friday
- focusing on a set of 10 new features (ESC could have a look at the list before)
- have the session either on the list and on irc
- revive the bot on irc (forgot his name again :)
- propose MozTrap tests only on the 10 features (to make the test run shorter and different each time)
- try to have the same session replicated to NLP
- have a closing session with all participants to get their feedback.

Sounds good - let's start with a concrete proposal posted in public, that we then can adjust later on if needed.
Not sure if this is also something that can be raised during the ESC.
I propose to go public this week.

The last BHS was also no great success
We need to identify the reasons and come up with concrete change proposals, together with marketing, how to foster participation and get people interested

Mike offered to incorporate the badges/barnstars idea into this and spread the word with regular blogposts, which we will aim for now

We had a longer discussion on the participation in various calls incl. BHS, with some action items I'll distill into tickets
When is the next BHS scheduled, so we have a rough timeline?
The last BHS was no big success either, so my take is to only have the next one if we have incorporated improvements we can try out, otherwise we risk burning people's time

From what I recall from before my vacation, Xisco is handling the BHS in the future and wears the hat on them. Sophie, is there anything (consuming lots of time, that is) on your plate? Otherwise, we could close this ticket for the moment and Xisco can use it as a reference for his work and coordination with Björn on the topic.

I'm closing the ticket, Xisco is handling the bug hunting sessions and will be able to manage how to improve them :)
