debian qemu maintainer's opinion is that it is wontfix because there is no dedicated gluster development package. I added comment asking for reconsideration, but I don't really expect a change of mind.

Maybe using suse openbuildservice like for mirrorbrain in order not to have to maintain a buildhost.
