Looks comparable to #1875 (which is a private ticket atm), so maybe
merge with that?

Is indeed related, but this is much smaller scope and IMHO can be done by a enthusiastic volunteer. Thus I suggest to leave this open. If this is solved as a sideeffect of #1875 later, so be it.
