Description

An idea came up a while back to do monthly recaps (ie at the end of each month) summarising what has happened inside the LO project and community. It wouldn't be very long but be useful for people outside of the project to see what progress is being made. Ideas for content:

  • Links to release announcements (if any) made in the month
  • New features that were added for the next release, with screenshots
  • Updates about events
  • Thanks to new contributors

It's important to give it a good name. "This Month in LibreOffice" might get mixed up with the "Month of LibreOffice". Some other ideas:

  • LibreOffice catch-up, $MONTH $YEAR
  • What's going on in LibreOffice, $MONTH YEAR

Setting initial target as this for Q4, to do the first in December. After that, if it works I'll set to recurring.

  • Target version changed from Q4/2017 to Recurring

I like the idea, so putting this ticket to recurring
The only question is whether that would be new content, or whether we could re-use bits from Italo's newsletter and the AB slides? (Although a 1:1 copy of these is members-only, so needs editing.)

Yes, I'll definitely do it this month -- sorry for letting it slip a bit. I've set up a repeating reminder at the end of each month now so I won't forget!

I don't envisage these as being very long, but summaries of things I notice throughout the month from various communities, mailing lists, TDF planet etc. BoD newsletter and AB slides can also provide some ideas, bearing in mind that the posts are public.

Done for May, and as per Michael Meeks' suggestion, I've put extra focus on giving credit to the people and companies involved: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2018/05/30/libreoffice-monthly-recap-may-2018/

These are still going on, eg I just posted January 2019: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2019/01/29/libreoffice-monthly-recap-january-2019/

As it's recurring, I won't update the ticket every singe time, unless anyone thinks it's important :-)

As discussed during our in-person meeting in Munich, let's add part of the BoD minutes to the monthtly recap
