Description

The site header is massive in cheap standard laptop resolution. Look at the screenshot.

Please redesign the site’s navigation somehow.

My hope is to move the docmentation website to the extension/template/documentation OpenDesktop implementation under discussion these days.

I'd like to have a landing page in OD for the web visitor (books, join-us, etc..). If not possible in OD, perhaps we will have to keep the SilverStripe entry page. I hope not.

So this fix and energy spent in SilverStripe, depends on OD outcome.

I'm not sure if OpenDesktop is actually providing what you are looking for - to me it's more a catalogue of extensions rather than an overview website/landing page. Heiko Tietze should have more information, but my guess is we'll rather have to stick with the existing documentation page and fix this ticket :-)

Any update if OD will satisfy our needs in this regard, can you judge already, or is it too early?

On discussions the week 25 in Munich, a solution will be designed in Silverstripe, not OD.

Is there something we can do in the meantime?
Either some CSS adjustment, or (which possibly is the more viable solution) moving all of the languages to one menu item?

Heiko, is this something you could help with? It will likely take some time until the new site is live, so might still be worth fixing this temporarily

The usual navigation would be [link] [link] [language v]. The first entry on the localized items is actually the translation of the site, so it could become <English>, <Spanish>, <German> instead of <English documentation>, <Documentación en español>, <Handbücher>. The "Join us" and "Support us" entries are not consistently used and could become the <links> (see above) if needed. But I would prefer Getting Started, Books, and Community publications meaning a quick link to the page content.

Since the decision to move away the extension website from Plone, I asked to handle the Documentation products, because it carries a lot of synergies (all are files to donwload). Task#3074 has been added to fit the site to Documentation requirements and are trivial in my opinion.

I hope to deactivate the current documentation website and move all contents to the extension website, so spending energy in the current website is better used to set the new extension/template/documentation website.
