Description
When I visit:
https://newdesign2.libreoffice.org/
the main title/slogan, filling most of the page, is:
"LibreOffice is an open source office suite created by you, for you."
It is a very bad idea to tell the visitor that LibreOffice is "created by them".
Now, it's true that "you" also means "you all", second person plural", as in the community of everyone, and in that sense it's kinda true. But a more likely understanding of "you" is second person singular: "LibreOffice is created by you personally".
Anyway, in both cases, we're telling the visitor: "It is created by you - not by us".
How would a site visitor understand this? There are multiple undesirable ways...
- LibreOffice is something like a DIY construction kit, you have to prepare it
- LibreOffice is not ready/complete, and you have to put in the final bit of work on it
- LibreOffice is complete, but it has a zillion knobs and combinations of settings which you have to painstakingly configure
- "We" are not responsible for LibreOffice, and any problems you may have with it - "you" are
