Feature #679
closedSetup tdf.io link shortener

Description
The URL tdf.io was registered. Simon recommends setting it up with bit.ly
Updated by Florian Effenberger about 10 years ago
- Assignee changed from Christian Lohmaier to Alexander Werner
Re-assigning to Alex, this is infra's task
Simon proposed something like bit.ly, not sure if they provide custom URLs without a fee - otherwise we maybe should look for a different solution, probably self-hosted
Updated by Florian Effenberger about 10 years ago
- Due date set to 2014-11-21
- Priority changed from Normal to High
Setting due date to the end of next week - people are waiting for this
We can shift this a bit more if there is no ready-to-use package available, but let's proceed soon in any case
Updated by Alexander Werner about 10 years ago
bit.ly starts at about 995USD/month, so no option. Investigating self hosted shorteners...
Updated by Alexander Werner about 10 years ago
Okay, so short update: bit.ly is indeed free for use, but only offers a limited subset of features without paying, such as no custom link names such as tdf.io/imprint if it already exists on bit.ly at all.

Thanks for the research! Any self-hosted solutions available? Per se,
the bit.ly thing sounds fine to me, but it will be hard to change
afterwards, so we should decide wisely in the beginning.
We can talk in the office on Monday, would be good to have some
information on self-hosted solutions (if there are any). :-)

YOURLS seems to be like the best self hosted solution.

Any chance to have this before Christmas?

Currently reinstalling the VM after it was used as testbed for monitoring last week. Setup of the shortener should be quite fast after that.

tdf.io is setup - please mail me if you need access to the admin interface.
Updated by Florian Effenberger almost 10 years ago
Woohoo! :-)
If you can send a note to projects@ and website@ on how to use this
service, that'd be great!
And feel free to send me admin credentials :-)
Updated by Florian Effenberger almost 10 years ago
I have access to the interface, but there is no mail yet to website@ and projects@ - can you do so, so people are in the know this service does exist now? ;-)
Updated by Alexander Werner almost 10 years ago
Sent a mail to projects and website lists.

I need it for press releases, so we can get rid of third party shorteners. If it is related to an email address, please use italo@libreoffice.org.

Hi, I would also like to ask for access, for Slovenian release documents, like translated press releases, background documents.
Also, where could I host those files? Should I setup my own account like at Google or should I park it in the wiki somewhere?

Guilhem, can you have a look?

Hi Martin,
In the future, please avoid reopening old tickets unless you believe the exact issue wasn't fixed properly ("Setup tdf.io link shortener" isn't really related to your request). It's best to open a new ticket instead :-P

I created a new account and will mail you the credentials in a second.

Clearly it's best to avoid third party hosters ;-) If the files aren't too big I'd say the wiki is a decent choice. Another solution would be to use our nextcloud instance, but AFAIK there are still a few things to do to call it production ready.

It would be nice to shorten some very specific pages for easy reach. We will be giving a lecture on LibreOffice development next week and writing https://www.libreoffice.org/about-us/source-code/ on the pamplets for the source code makes it a bit cluttered. So something like tdf.io/source could be reserved for this by you maybe?
I also would like to add this specific one :) Can I have access too?

Hi Gökhan,
Quoting what I wrote yesterday:

Anyway, done.
