Description

Following Ask, ML and Bugzilla, seems that there are a lot of people who don't know about hard recalc, finding it as an obscure option.

As it isn't in any place but in the help, only with a deep read you can know about it if nobody tells you.

Showing it next to Menu/Tools/Cell contents/Recalculate, at least makes it visible.

Submitted a patch for this, thanks for reporting: https://gerrit.libreoffice.org/#/c/11305/

Do you have an idea for a better label than "Recalculate Hard"? To me it's not clear what's the difference between those two.

Really thanks for a so quick implementation.

I think:

All cells recalculation

in contrast with Recalculate [F9], that only does the calculation for dependants of modified cells,
can express in an a more understable way for new and non expert user what it does.

Full recalculation

I think is also good and a bit more short.

Maybe Recalculate [F9] with those changes, also needs a more clear text like to differentate:

Modified cells recalculation

Thanks for the explanation.

How with this wording:

  • Recalculate modified Cells (F9)
  • Recalculate all Cells (Ctrl+Shift+F9)

Fine for me.

But after review the help, maybe if we like being consistents in both places, and a bit more accurate.

Recalculate all changed formulas (F9)
Recalculate all formulas in the document (Shift+Ctrl+F9)

--------------------------------
Help text:
Recalculate
Recalculates all changed formulas. If AutoCalculate is enabled, the Recalculate command applies only to formulas like RAND or NOW.

To access this command...
Choose Tools - Cell Contents - Recalculate
F9

Press F9 to recalculate. Press Shift+Ctrl+F9 to recalculate all formulas in the document.
After the document has been recalculated, the display is refreshed. All charts are also refreshed.
The Add-In functions like RANDBETWEEN currently cannot respond to the Recalculate command or F9. Press Shift+Ctrl+F9 to recalculate all formulas, including the Add-In functions._

The patch has been rejected. Here's the comment from the reviewer:

I talked to Kohei and we both would like to avoid adding the Calculate Hard button.
The plan is to move away from having ever the need for a hard recalculation so this is counter-productive.

Thanks for ask devs opinion.
Taken in account their comments, then sure it's better doesn't implement it for a brief time, it only could lead to confusion.
I only hope the solution will be implemented soon.
