Description

Currently, if you do a Google search for "LibreOffice migrations" you get the certification page, some conference talks, and some blog posts. It would be very useful to have a single, attractive and clear page listing major migrations with information such as:

  • Where it took place
  • How many PCs were migrated
  • How much money was saved (if known)
  • Other notes (eg €200,000 given back to LO development, as in Nantes migration)

I will start work on this as a wiki page. But it would be good to have it as a shiny page on our main website, possibly with logos of the organizations/companies that migrated (after getting permission).

A longer-term idea could be a dedicated migration website, eg www.weuselibreoffice.org, with case studies of successful migrations, forums and so forth.

This page is now well populated, so we could use some of the information on a "Who uses LibreOffice" page on the main website. Best to avoid hard figures for money saved -- just show that the software is being used out there in the wild.

I'll make a proposal to marketing-priv and see where it goes.

Proposal for new page on the main site: "Who uses LibreOffice?" under the Discover menu. Will run this past marketing-priv@ and website@ lists.

Who uses LibreOffice?

Tens of millions of people around the world use LibreOffice every day, in homes, businesses, charities and government departments. Some notable users include:

[French flag] MIMO, France’s inter-ministerial working group on free software, runs LibreOffice on almost 500,000 PCs. The software is used in many departments including energy, defence, agriculture and education.

[Spanish flag] The administration of the Spanish autonomous region of Valencia has installed LibreOffice on 120,000 PCs. This has provided the administration with IT vendor independence and reduced expenditure on proprietary software licenses.

[Italian flag] Italy's Ministry of Defence is transitioning to LibreOffice and the Open Document Format (ODF) on 150,000 PCs. The Ministry is developing online courses to help with the switch to LibreOffice.

Download LibreOffice today and join the growing number of users getting their work done with open source and open standards.
