Description
When users experience LibreOffice bugs, it is very often (perhaps most often) in documents which they would rather not, or cannot, disclose:
- Sensitive personal correspondence.
- Financial information, either personal or business.
- Internal documents of organizations which require authorization for disclosure
- Internal documents of organizations which wouldn't get authorization for disclosure
- Drafts of publications which aren't ready to be posted somewhere, even if it is just some LO bug page
This has two effects: At best, a bug is filed, but no example document is attached and no reproduction instructions provided; at worst, nothing is filed in the first place.
To facilitate users being able to upload documents exhibiting bugs, it would be very useful if they had a tool which can "anonymize" their documents:
- Remove identifying meta-data, or replace it with Gibberish
- Replace some parts, or all of, the text with Gibberish (maintaining rendered lengths, numbers of characters, or other metrics)
- Replace images and other attached objects with placeholders (which also significantly reduces the document size)
- Rename styles, bookmarks and other named entities with generic or gibberish names
- etc.
This could be done by, say, an LO plugin - but it could also be a completely stand-alone project which processes LO-saved files (ODT, ODS, ODP etc.) ; so it might be particularly suited for an academic project, an internship etc.
