Two concepts using people attached; shared with Florian and Cloph by email for feedback. IMO donate_concept_people_2.png is better -- it adds a personal/human touch, without being too distracting. It's fairly easy to implement as another iteration too.

I've created a design (design_24may19.png) to:

  • Add a personal touch, showing our friendly and diverse community
  • Highlight the "Friends of LibreOffice" idea that we can build upon
  • Changed the title to blue, to make it stand out more and connect with the infographic on the right

If we want to go ahead with this, I will get confirmation from the people in the photo. For the technical implementation, first add this directly underneath <form id="Form_DonationProceed...

<img style="max-width:100%;padding-bottom:20px;" src="https://www.libreoffice.org/assets/Uploads/donate-page-community-banner.jpg">

Then change line 7 of DonatePage.ss to read "Support us - be a Friend of LibreOffice!" and add style="color:#1C99E0" to the <h3> tag

I will get confirmation from the people in the photo

Got confirmation from everyone except Bjoern, who seems to be completely unreachable for the last few weeks...

I still didn't hear from Bjoern, so I replaced with Italo, who is fine to use his picture:

The technical implementation details in #2 remain the same; just need Cloph to add the design as a variant now.

We should roll this out soon, to have some heads-up time before 6.3
I'll add it to today's team call agenda

Can you give an update where we stand, if there are any blockers?

Sent the design to Cloph on 24 May for implementation (email titled "New donate page design with community photos", you were included as well).

Design now live with changed ratios as follows:
  • oneshot - no banner
  • oneshot - with banner
  • recurring (no banner)
  • recurring (no banner) - (i.e. twice the probability)

(both variants allow switching between recurring and oneshot, it is just the default that differs)
Only did the change for www.libreoffice.org
Also added annotation to matomo - new variant (customvariable) will have and appended "_banner" to distinguish it.

We tried a version with a banner showing community members, but it was less successful than the other designs. I think this is because it pushes the donation buttons and text further down the page. So we removed it, but learnt something in the process!
