Task #634
closedFeature #631: Improvements to the standard and formatting toolbars
Improve toolbar tooltips
100%
Description
Many of the toolbar tooltips are not very descriptive, including many of the new ones that will be added to the toolbar during this proposal, so these need to be fixed.
Improvement of New Toolbar Buttons- 'Insert Image' - The current tooltip is titled 'from file' after the menu option Insert > Image > From File - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80542
- Rename 'Insert Footnote/Endnote Directly' to 'Insert Footnote Directly' [done] - https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=82970
- Removal of the word 'directly' and 'manually' from buttons for footnote, endnote
Improvements to Buttons Already In the Toolbar - Postpoined
I had submitted suggestions to these improvements to the design mailing list but never received any response from the team.

- Addition of the word 'insert' before buttons like table, comment, bookmark, special character, movie and sound, formula, chart, section

We might need an extra property to hold a custom tooltip - just using the menu title seems to be not the best solution.

One possibility is to create new buttons and link them either to the menu entries or directly to the functions.

Mirek stated in the Aug 31st 2014 Meeting: "I do want to note that changing text can be a hassle -- for translators, developers, help maintainers, etc. so please only suggest fixes if they're a significant improvement (such as in the "from file" case)"
I do understand that the tooltips would need to be translated, but i dont see how this would be effecting developers, help maintainers, etc. So for the time being, buttons that dont mainly effect the main toolbar proposal will be postponed till a later date.

Of course it a*ffects help maintainers (the documentation team), developers (the few ones who change the in-built help [i.e., the “help” repository in git]) and translators. You *need to maintain consistency in each and every part. Can you imagine how much work would be needed to achieve that?
So yeah, please keep changes to a minimum.

Yes there would likely be quite a bit of work required if tooltips were changed to suggestions from < http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Improvement-of-Tooltip-Texts-tt4113640.html > or < http://user-prompt.com/tip-the-tool-how-to-label-toolbar-functions/ >. But in order to show consistency within this new toolbar proposal, should we include 'insert' before other entries, like is currently available in 'insert footnote directly' or should we remove 'insert' from the beginning of them, so they appear like 'Table' or 'Chart'.

I have added custom tooltips where it does not make sense to change the menu entry.
For example, "Insert Image" has this tooltip in the toolbar, but is still named "Insert->Image->From File ..." in the menu.

Was looking over the patches and noticed the following. 'Preview Print Output' isnt an accurate representation of what it does because you may have comments appearing in your print output which dont appear in page preview.
