Task #790
closedBibisect for 4.4: Determine Linux system baseline
0%
Description
As noted in issue #597, we're starting a new bibisect repo for 4.4, and we need to determine the particulars of what system baseline (and dependencies) we're using to create these builds.
Bjoern is finishing the work he started on compiling the 4.4. alpha builds under a stock Ubuntu 14.04, but will hand-off the duties to Robinson for the 4.4 beta cycle.

The current bibisect repo on Linux is based on Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit). Moving to the current LTS (14.04) seems reasonable to me, but there have been suggestions to use an older baseline (similar to the old RHEL systems we use for our official TDF builds) to ensure greater compatibility with more systems. Compatibility is a laudable goal for end-users, but for testing within the QA Team, I think a more modern OS isn't a significant impediment for our testers.
I'll bring up the baseline question during the next ESC call

I lack technical insight, but I assume that the baseline should be the older one, and not changed during alpha stage. Clarification via the ESC sounds reasonable - did you do so during the last call as announced?

bibisect repositories weren't created on release baseline and not even with release-configure switches, so for me not much of a concern. Although I'd prefer to use use --with-distro=LibreOfficeLinux +/- the gstreamer/kde or similar that depends on the build-OS
if the new builds should be done on release baseline

can be used to install the OS & dependencies it in a VM

Discussion shifted to this week's ESC call, deadline can be met according to Robinson

No one raised any objections to using Ubuntu 14.04 as the baseline, so (barring any additional input from devs/QA folks using bibisect), we'll stick with that.
