Description

The community is asking for new NL instances of Askbot:

Turkish (tr)
Basque (eus)

Also for this ticket:

Evgeny, meet Guilhem Moulin, our new sysadmin. ;-)
Guilhem, meet Evgeny Fadeev, AskBot author and maintainer of our instance.

Evgeny, can you have a look at this ticket?
Thanks a lot!

I will add Turkish, but it's at 75% readiness at the moment.
Basque is at 2% but it appears that someone might be translating it in December.

Nice to meet Guilhem!

Actually - could you guys please confirm whether you'd like to add Turkish at 75%?

Could you wait until they have finished the translation? Muhammet has requested an access and is working on it.
For the Basque version, they would like to have it set for the 6th of December because they have a translation marathon and would like to present it to the community. Thanks a lot :)

Hi Evgeny,
The Basque team has an important community event on the 6th of December (see http://kabia.durangokoazoka.eus/eu/egitaraua-kabia). Would it be possible that they have their Ask instance installed for this event so they can demonstrate it? If it's not possible, please let me know they will find another way to attract people to it. Thanks a lot in advance :) Sophie

Hi Sophie,

The Basque translator was in contact with me and I'me made him the language coordinator.
Regarding the separate instance - if that is done and it is desired to see translations
appear as they are made, someone must be constantly updating the translation on that instance.

Regards,
Evgeny.

Is there an easy command how we can do that? :-)

Approximately this (not tested on a separate setup).

Install transifex client

pip install transifex

tx pull #maybe use some options to select language and force download
cd askbot
python ../manage.py compilemessages

then restart the server process

Seems we lack skills for the moment and need to look into this - Evgeny,
is there any chance you can look into this and do one pull of the
language for the instances, so they have it for tomorrow's event? We can
then look into it later again without time pressure :-) Thanks!

I've set up an instance https://ask.libreoffice.org/eu/ - it's a separate site and users have to register independently of the main site.

Basque locale loads every 5 minutes per crontab, however I'm not sure that this crontab won't be overwritten by the salt deployer, I will check this tomorrow.

Awesome, thanks!

I moved the job to its own file at /etc/cron.d/askbot.

Hi Evgeny,

Turkish translation is 100% complete on transifex. I appreciate if you could add Turkish. I am ready to handle problems (if any) with the Turkish translation.

Cheers,
Muhammet

Hi Evgeny,

Thanks a lot! We will probably be evaluating and rectifying translations while using it for a while. How frequently are the translations merged to the production server?

And I appreciate if you could add these users as moderators/admins (whichever is appropriate) for the Turkish instance:
  • Kara
  • Gökhan Gurbetoğlu
  • faruk.omer.cakmak

Cheers!

No, I haven't received any update on this.

Latest tr and eu locales installed on the main site now. They are manually updated now, development eu instance taken down.

We don't have any moderators yet. The askbot documentations says "Only site administrators can assign moderator status to any user.". Should we open another issue for moderator status request?

Actions #26

  • Status changed from Closed to In Progress
  • Assignee changed from Guilhem Moulin to Sophie Gautier

Sophie, can you have a look in granting moderator rights? See

Thanks!

Sophie - anyone with "administrator" status can turn users into moderators
by going into their user profile -> moderation tab and change the status.

Thanks a lot Evgeny for your guidance, it's now done and I'm closing this ticket :) Sophie
